Bioactive materials can help make teeth last a lifetime. Young people today consume staggering amounts of sugars. Xerostomia is a problem for our older patients taking multiple medications and results in demineralization of tooth structure. Bioactive materials release fluoride and reduce post-operative sensitivity and potential recurrent decay. Calcium releasing liners and bases provide a strong antibacterial effect, assist in dentin remineralization, and act as a protective barrier. This course is an excellent way to understand and implement the use of new bioactive dental materials.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the effective uses of bioactive restorative materials
  • Select the best applications for the different types of Glass Ionomer materials
  • Utilize innovative new calcium releasing liners and bases
  • Confidently place direct pulp caps in appropriate situations
  • Choose bioactive cements that reduce future marginal decay
